Kerala BJP Leader P.C. George Retracts Election Funds Misappropriation Allegations
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
Bharatiya Janata Party leader P.C. George has withdrawn his public allegations regarding the misappropriation of election campaign funds in the Poonjar constituency. In a July 2026 speech, Mr. George had claimed that ₹4.45 crore was spent on the campaign, far exceeding the permitted limit of ₹40 lakh, and accused local party officials of financial irregularities. Following internal party pressure, he issued a clarification stating he had no knowledge of the actual funds received. Mr. George now claims he was misled by two local BJP leaders into believing the higher expenditure figures. He confirmed that after reviewing the party's official accounts, he is convinced no financial misconduct occurred.
Why it matters
The retraction aims to mitigate internal friction within the Kerala BJP, which has been managing multiple allegations of financial mismanagement across several constituencies.
