Kerala HC Directs ACS to Appear Over Complaint Against DGP Sreejith
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
The Kerala High Court has ordered Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Minhaj Alam to personally appear before the court and explain the non-compliance with its previous order regarding a complaint against DGP S. Sreejith. Justice A. Badharudeen issued the directive in Kochi during hearings on a state plea seeking three additional weeks to reconsider a complaint filed by Dipin Edavana, an Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspector from Malappuram. Edavana had alleged that DGP Sreejith attended a private foreign event in official attire. The court previously set aside an earlier ruling by then Additional Chief Secretary Biswanath Sinha that dismissed Edavana's complaint as false and vexatious without granting a hearing. When the state sought more extension time on Tuesday, the petitioner argued that the previously allotted three-week window had already expired.
Why it matters
The court appearance ordered for the Additional Chief Secretary escalates institutional accountability regarding disciplinary probes involving high-ranking police officials in Kerala.
