Kerala HC Orders SIT Probe into Milma Ghee Misappropriation Case
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
The Kerala High Court has directed the special investigation team (SIT) to conduct a foolproof and expeditious probe into alleged misappropriation of 1,61,535 litres of ghee supplied by Milma to Sabarimala Sannidhanam for the 2025-26 pilgrimage season. The court found irregularities in the procurement of ghee for the preparation of ‘aravana’ and noted that the award of the tender to Milma bypassed the e‑tender process approved by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB). Records were seized from TDB offices in Sabarimala, Nilackal, Erumely, Pathanamthitta, Pandalam and Thiruvananthapuram, and from Milma offices in Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta. Numerous witnesses have been questioned by the SIT, which is headed by M.J. Sojan, Superintendent of Police, VACB. The report raised concerns about whether the entire quantity of ghee reached the Sannidhanam.
Why it matters
The probe will determine if public funds were misused in the sacred pilgrimage season and hold officials of the TDB and Milma accountable, affecting the financial integrity of Sabarimala rituals.
