Kerala Intensifies Food Safety Checks Ahead of Onam Festival

Kerala's Health Minister K. Muraleedharan announced that the Food Safety department is intensifying inspections across the State to ensure safe and hygienic food during the Onam season. Since July 27, enforcement squads have conducted over 5,000 checks, issuing notices to 705 food business operators and penalizing more than 390 outlets for violating the Food Safety and Standards Act. Special inspections focus on essential Onam items such as papadam, jaggery, coconut oil, and ghee, with raw material samples sent to laboratories for quality testing. Authorities are also inspecting hotels, restaurants, catering units, cloud kitchens, and online delivery platforms distributing Onam sadya meals to verify FSSAI compliance. Additionally, the department is conducting awareness classes across the State under the 'Eat Right Keralam – Safe Onam' initiative.
