Kerala Vigilance Bureau To Register FIR Against Pinarayi Vijayan
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) will register an FIR on Monday against former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T Veena, and his son-in-law Muhammed Riyas. This action follows a directive from a single bench of the Kerala High Court, which based its decision on a report submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to the state police last month. The case involves allegations of criminal misconduct and disproportionate assets related to payments allegedly received by Veena’s firm, Exalogic Solutions, from Kochi-based Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited. Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala confirmed that the state government will comply with the court order and will not file an appeal. CPI(M) leadership has indicated it intends to challenge the verdict through further legal and political channels.
Why it matters
The registration of an FIR against a former Chief Minister marks a significant legal development in a high-profile corruption probe involving the CPI(M) leadership in Kerala.
