· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu
The Keralam government has extended the validity of 18 Public Service Commission rank lists for teaching posts by six months. The extension applies to lists scheduled to expire between September and November 2026, aiming to address appointment delays caused by census duties and administrative procedures. Additionally, the state Cabinet approved the establishment of three new special courts in Palakkad, Manjeri, and Thrissur to expedite trials under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The government also increased the permanent staff strength in existing NDPS courts in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. Chief Minister V D Satheesan stated that these measures are part of an intensified state-wide effort to combat drug abuse.
Why it matters
The decision provides immediate relief to job-seeking teachers facing recruitment delays and strengthens the judicial infrastructure to handle the state's rising volume of narcotics-related cases.
