Murali Sreeshankar won the silver medal in the men’s long jump at the 2026 Asian Games with a jump of 8.07 metres. His second attempt of 8.07 metres secured the silver medal. The event took place on Monday, with the final held in the evening. Sreeshankar’s mother, E.S. Bijimol, watched the final at their home in Yakkara, Palakkad, praying as he competed. Relatives, friends, and neighbours gathered at the family home in Yakkara to watch the competition on television. After his medal was confirmed, firecrackers were set off and sweets were shared as celebrations spread through Yakkara. Palakkad MP V.K. Sreekandan joined the celebrations at the house. Sreeshankar’s father and coach, K.S. Murali, participated via video call after being unable to attend in person.
