Khammam CCS Police Arrest Two for Forest Permit Forgery

· India · The Hindu, BBC News

Khammam Central Crime Station police arrested two men, Korra Shiva and Radhe Shyam, Sunday in Khammam for allegedly forging forest permits. Shiva, a timber merchant from Gopa Thanda, allegedly obtained permits for "Nalla Tumma" timber in the name of private individuals and altered them to show "sandra karra" timber. The accused are said to have felled sandra trees in Mahabubabad district and sold the timber to Radhe Shyam, who then transported it illegally to Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh using forged permits. Police say nearly nine lorry loads of timber were moved to other states. A detailed investigation is underway, including further probes into the supply chain.

Why it matters

The arrest curtails illegal timber trafficking that feeds supply of sandra karra used in pan‑masala, protecting forest resources and curbing revenue loss.
