Kia Showcases Carnival Hybrid In India With Stronger Electric Motor

· Automobile · RushLane, CarWale

Kia has showcased the Carnival Hybrid in India for the first time alongside the launch of the new Sorento, though pricing has not yet been announced. The Carnival Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 180 PS and 265 Nm, paired with a more powerful electric motor than the Sorento Hybrid, rated at 73.4 PS and 304 Nm. The combined system output for the India-spec Carnival Hybrid has not been disclosed, and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic is expected. Visually and in terms of cabin equipment, the hybrid variant is largely identical to the existing diesel Carnival, featuring twin 12.3-inch screens, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, three-zone climate control, eight airbags and Level 2 ADAS. Kia has yet to confirm a launch timeline, though the vehicle is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

Why it matters

The Carnival Hybrid gives Indian premium-MPV buyers a petrol-electric option alongside the existing Rs 59.65 lakh diesel, potentially reshaping Kia's position in the segment. It is also part of Kia's broader plan to launch eight electrified vehicles in India, including hybrid versions of the Sonet, Carens and Seltos.
