Kieron Bowie Shines for Scotland After World Cup Omission

· Sports · BBC Sport

Forward Kieron Bowie scored his first international goal and recorded seven shots in Scotland's 2-0 win over North Macedonia in the UEFA Nations League in Skopje. Bowie was previously left out of Steve Clarke's squad for the World Cup in the USA despite scoring for Serie A side Hellas Verona. Under new manager Sebastien Pocognoli, Bowie started alongside Oli McBurnie in an ultra-attacking 3-4-1-2 formation. The 24-year-old Fifer noted that the new tactical setup and style of play suit his strengths in running behind defenders. Pocognoli's side secured the win in Skopje following a previous Hampden loss to Switzerland where Bowie's first start lasted just 13 minutes after Jack Hendry's red card.

Why it matters

The victory marks a turning point for Scotland's national team under a new tactical setup, giving players like Kieron Bowie a key role in the squad's ongoing rebuilding phase.
