Kishu Singh of Bihar’s Saran district became a lieutenant in the Indian Army after fourteen attempts at defence exams. He cleared the Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam in May following multiple failures in the National Defence Academy (NDA) selection process. Singh, now 24, had turned to CDS and the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) after he crossed the NDA age limit. His ambition was sparked in 2011, when he watched the film Border and celebrated India’s cricket World‑Cup win on home soil. He said concentrating on self‑reflection, honesty and highlighting his strengths during the Service Selection Board interviews helped him succeed.
