Kolkata Film Institute Agitation Reaches 27th Day Amid Water Crisis

· India · Indian Express, News18

The agitation at Kolkata's Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute has reached its 27th day as the deadlock between students and the administration continues. Following the suspension of classes until November 13, the administration officially closed the hostels and the hostel mess. Student protesters reported an acute drinking water crisis on campus, with the filtration system failing and Municipal Corporation water tankers ceasing to arrive. The administrative building's 24-hour toilets have become inaccessible after authorities locked down the facility, and outside food delivery is restricted to the main gate. Students standing firm on their demand for the vice-chancellor's resignation have drawn support from actor Naseeruddin Shah and director Payal Kapadia.

Why it matters

The campus closure and shutdown of basic amenities directly impact around 80 to 100 students stranded on grounds during the festive season, escalating tensions between the student body and institute authorities.
