Kozhikode Traders Protest Delay in Arrest Over ₹1.5 Crore Gold Fraud

Jewellery traders in Kozhikode’s Kammath Lane observed a half-day shutdown on Saturday to protest the police's failure to arrest a suspect in a ₹1.5 crore gold fraud case. The accused, identified as Safarnas, allegedly collected 948 grams of gold from over 10 local shops on July 27 under the pretext of showing it to customers before absconding. Despite an FIR being registered and statements from 11 traders being recorded, the suspect remains at large 26 days after the incident. Protesters are now demanding that the investigation be transferred to a senior police officer or a special investigation team. Traders report that the accused is currently attempting to secure anticipatory bail despite a previous rejection.
