· Sports · Times of India, India Today
Former India opener Kris Srikkanth believes 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is reviving excitement for red-ball cricket through his standout performances. Sooryavanshi recently starred for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, scoring 92 off 81 balls in the semifinal against Central Zone and contributing 40 in the final innings to secure a four-wicket victory. At 15 years and 157 days, he became the youngest batter to score a half-century in Duleep Trophy history, breaking a 57-year-old record. Srikkanth noted on his YouTube channel that the teenager's fearless stroke play is drawing new viewers to the format. This follows Sooryavanshi's breakthrough IPL 2026 campaign with Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed 776 runs across 16 matches.
Why it matters
Sooryavanshi's rapid rise through domestic and international cricket marks him as a key prospect for the future of the Indian national team.
