Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena announced a compensation of ₹15 lakh to the next of kin of four civilians killed during street protests in Leh last year. The administration also sanctioned an ex-gratia of ₹3 lakh for individuals who sustained major injuries and ₹1 lakh for those with minor injuries during the September 24 violence. The relief announcement follows a fresh round of talks held on September 9 between the Centre and Ladakhi civil society groups, including the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance. Four civilians died and around 90 others were injured after security personnel allegedly opened fire on protesters in Leh. The Centre has previously pledged tailor-made special provisions for Ladakh under Article 371 to grant a legislature to the region.
