Ladakh Civil Society Groups Submit Non-Negotiable Demands to MHA

Representatives from the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance met with Ministry of Home Affairs officials in Leh on Wednesday to present a formal list of constitutional and administrative demands. The group, which included climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and MP Mohammad Hanifa Jan, is seeking a directly elected UT-level legislature with substantive control over taxation, budgets, and public funds. They also requested the creation of a separate Public Service Commission and region-specific administrative and police cadres. Additionally, the representatives demanded justice and the withdrawal of cases for civilians affected by police action during incidents on September 24, 2025. The meeting marks a resumption of formal dialogue following the last engagement held in New Delhi on May 22.
