Ladakh Dissolves Kargil Hill Council and Sets Panchayat Polls

· India · Indian Express, Zee News

The Union Territory administration in Ladakh dissolved the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, with immediate effect following the creation of six new districts under administrative reorganization. The State Election Commission of Ladakh announced that panchayat elections across the region will be held on November 21, with the nomination filing period closing on November 2. The model code of conduct came into force immediately upon the release of the official notification by the Department of Information and Public Relations. To prevent any administrative vacuum, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Kargil will oversee the council's duties until new separate councils are constituted. The dissolution occurred as local leaders awaited an invitation for subsequent talks with the Union Home Ministry.
