Lando Norris Apologises After Late Collision With Piastri At Singapore GP Sprint
· Sports · Sportstar, ABC News (AU)
Reigning world champion Lando Norris apologised to McLaren after colliding with teammate Oscar Piastri on the final lap of a chaotic Singapore Grand Prix sprint. The incident ruined both drivers' chances of a podium finish as they chased Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. Norris clipped Piastri's rear tyre while attempting a pass, sending both cars spinning and handing Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli fourth place. Norris managed to limp across the finish line in eighth place to secure a single point, while Piastri was forced to retire. A record nine cars failed to finish the 20-lap sprint race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Why it matters
The intra-team collision costs McLaren crucial championship points and forces the garage into extensive overnight repairs ahead of the main Singapore Grand Prix race.
