Lionel Messi Agrees 100% Buyout of Spanish Club CD Eldense

· Sports · Times of India, BBC Sport

Lionel Messi has reached an agreement in principle to acquire 100 per cent of the shares in Spanish club CD Eldense. The proposed takeover would give the 39-year-old a direct stake in LaLiga 2 professional football without involving external partners or third parties. The club is based in Elda in the Alicante province and currently competes in Spain's second division after winning promotion in May 2026. The deal remains subject to financial due diligence and formal approval from the Spanish National Sports Council. Earlier in 2026, Messi acquired full ownership of Catalan third-tier club UE Cornellà as part of his expanding football business portfolio.

Why it matters

The acquisition expands Messi's growing football ownership portfolio into the professional ranks of Spanish football, adding a Segunda División club to his earlier purchase of UE Cornellà.
