Lockerbie Bombing Trial Postponed Due to New Evidence

The trial of Abu Agila Mohammad Kheir Al-Marimi for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing has been postponed for a third time. Judge Dabney Friedrich set aside the Washington DC trial date after defense lawyers reported the discovery of new evidence from the US government on August 21. Al-Marimi, who is in US custody, faces charges related to the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103, which killed 270 people. A new trial date has been scheduled for January next year to allow the defense time to investigate the development. The bombing remains the deadliest terror attack in British history.
Why it matters
The delay extends the legal process for the families of the 270 victims, including 43 UK citizens, who have waited nearly four decades for a final verdict.
