LPG Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory for Subsidised Refills From October 1

Domestic LPG consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication by October 1, 2026, to continue receiving subsidised cylinder refills at regulated prices. While consumers who skip the process will still be supplied with cylinders, they will be required to pay the prevailing market price. As of September 19, 89.9% of active domestic LPG users have already finished the mandatory authentication. The government stated that 27.43 crore consumers who have already completed the process require no further action. This policy aims to ensure that subsidies reach eligible households and prevent the diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial or industrial use.
Why it matters
Consumers who fail to authenticate their Aadhaar will lose their LPG subsidy, leading to higher out-of-pocket costs for every cylinder refill at market rates.
