The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) described the incident as "murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise" and arrested suspect Kevin T, who has four previous convictions. A member of the suspect's immediate family was also taken into custody. The Mayor of Trappes stated the deceased victim was of African origin and one critically injured person was of North African descent, suggesting a "racist, probably Islamophobic overtone" to the attack.
