Madhya Pradesh Engineer Suspended After Viral Bribery Remarks

· India · Indian Express

The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended C B Ahirwar, an executive engineer in the Water Resources Department's Panna division, following his viral comments regarding bribes. Ahirwar told the media he accepted money offered willingly by contractors, even if he did not demand it, claiming this had been the office policy since he joined. His suspension comes two days after the Sagar Lokayukta police arrested two of his department employees for allegedly accepting a ₹45,000 bribe from a contractor. The suspension order cited his conduct as unbecoming of a government servant and a violation of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965. Ahirwar was not among the two employees caught in the Lokayukta trap.

Why it matters

The suspension highlights the state government's move to address public corruption and enforce conduct rules following a high-profile bribery investigation in the Water Resources Department.
