Madhya Pradesh Releases Botswana Cheetah Into Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary
· India · Indian Express, India Today
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav released a three-year-old female cheetah named CCB-2 into the Gandhi Sagar sanctuary on Sunday. The relocation from Kuno National Park aims to encourage breeding, as the existing female cheetah at the site has not yet mated with the two resident males. Gandhi Sagar, located in the Mandsaur-Neemuch region, currently houses four cheetahs. This initiative is part of the broader Project Cheetah, which seeks to reintroduce the species to the Indian landscape.
Why it matters
The successful breeding of cheetahs at Gandhi Sagar is critical for establishing a viable second home for the species in India beyond Kuno National Park.
