Maharashtra Announces India's First Blockchain-Based Land Tokenisation Law
· Business · Hindustan Times, Business Standard
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the Digitisation and Exchange of Land Token Asset (Delta) Act at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai. This legislation creates a legal framework for the blockchain-based tokenisation of immovable assets, which the government estimates could cover property worth approximately ₹50 lakh crore. Developed with input from SEBI, the BSE, and the NSE, the framework aims to provide regulatory oversight and consumer protection for digital property tokens. The model allows investors to purchase fractional ownership of land, potentially increasing liquidity for property owners who previously struggled to access capital from their assets.
Why it matters
This legislation could transform the real estate sector by enabling fractional investment and unlocking liquidity for property owners through a regulated digital exchange.
