Maharashtra CM Fadnavis visits drought-hit Marathwada, vows farmer relief

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis visited drought-affected tehsils in Latur and Dharashiv on Wednesday. He met distressed farmers in Jau village of Nilanga tehsil in Latur whose soybean crops withered after sprouting due to lack of rain. Farmers reported severe water and fodder scarcity, with one elderly farmer stating it has been 52 days since last rain. Fadnavis acknowledged the situation as more severe than the 1972 drought, citing only 50% of normal rainfall in the region. He assured government support, including drinking-water supply lasting until next June and preparation of damage assessment reports. Fadnavis also said relief measures would cover both kharif and rabi crops and that the first government order on relief would be issued by Saturday.
