Maharashtra FDA Cancels Cipla Pune Unit License Over Violations
· Business · Hindustan Times, India Today
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has cancelled the drug sale licenses of a Cipla Pharma & Life Sciences facility in Pune, effective August 27. The action follows an inspection that uncovered unauthorised promotional text on the packaging of Reactin Plus, a prescription medicine. Regulators seized stock worth ₹11.19 lakh and ordered a market recall of the drug. Inspectors also reported irregularities in storage and distribution, including poor record-keeping and improper storage of medicines on the floor.
Why it matters
The cancellation of these licenses disrupts Cipla's local distribution operations and underscores the state's enforcement of safety standards for prescription medications.
