Maharashtra Government Open To Talks On Maratha Quota Legal Validity, Says Fadnavis

A day after Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil resumed his indefinite fast at Antarwali Sarati in Maharashtra's Parbhani district, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that the state government is open to discussing constitutionally valid and legally viable demands. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, addressing a farmer-youth meeting at Parbhani, added that Fadnavis and he had sent ministers to examine the legal aspects of the demand and that the government's position is to grant reservation to the Maratha community without cutting into the quota already available to other communities. Fadnavis said government representatives were at the Parbhani event to engage with demonstrators and expressed confidence in resolving the issue as was done earlier. The protest site at Antarwali Sarati has been the focal point of previous Maratha quota agitations led by Jarange Patil.
