Malayalam actor Savithri Sreedharan died at her residence in Mankavu, Kozhikode, on September 23, 2026, at the age of 78. She had been bedridden for a long time and died of age-related ailments. Her portrayal of Jameela in Sudani from Nigeria won her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actress and a Special Jury Mention at the 66th National Film Awards. She also appeared in films such as Valiyangadi, Dakini, Mera Naam Shaji, Virus, Ittymaani: Made in China, Pada and Paappan. Her stage career spanned nearly five decades, beginning with Karutha Velicham staged by Valayanad Kala Samithi. Her body will be kept at the Town Hall from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. on September 23 for the public to pay homage.
