Mamata Banerjee Arrives in Delhi for INDIA Bloc Meeting
· India · The Hindu, Times of India
Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday to participate in a meeting of the Opposition INDIA bloc. Accompanied by party MPs Dola Sen and Kalyan Banerjee, she stated that her primary focus is the Chief Election Commissioner and his team, whom she accused of betraying public trust. Banerjee has recently engaged in discussions with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and CPI(M) general secretary M. A. Baby regarding electoral roll revisions. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari criticized her visit, labeling the meeting a planning session with what he termed 'Dimagi Naxals'. Adhikari also requested that the Delhi Police and central intelligence agencies monitor the proceedings.
Why it matters
The meeting signals a rare coordination between political rivals TMC and CPI(M) in West Bengal to challenge the Election Commission's management of electoral rolls. This alliance could shift the political landscape in the state ahead of future electoral processes.
