Man filming Delhi minister says he was streaming video live, did not abuse him
· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times, India Today
Sahib Singh, a 22-year-old AAP social media team member from West Delhi, said he was recording and streaming a live video of Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma’s inspection of a road project in Vikas Puri on Sunday. He stated he never abused the minister or anyone else, and that he was acting on the directions of AAP MLA Jarnail Singh. Sahib said he lives with his parents and is pursuing graduation, and has been associated with Jarnail Singh’s team for four years. He submitted a written complaint to Vikas Puri police demanding an FIR be registered against the minister. The incident occurred after AAP workers, including Sahib, showed the minister what they claimed was poor-quality construction on a newly laid road. Sahib rejected the minister’s claim that he lost his temper only after being abused and provoked.
Why it matters
The allegation of assault by a sitting minister on a political worker raises concerns about misuse of power and accountability in Delhi’s public works department. It also highlights tensions between the ruling AAP and opposition BJP over infrastructure projects in the city.
