Manga-Inspired Theme Park to be Built Near Paris
· World · BBC News, Hindustan Times, Al Jazeera
France and Saudi Arabia have agreed to a €6bn deal to construct three theme parks near Cergy-Pontoise, outside Paris. One of the parks will be inspired by the Japanese manga franchise Dragon Ball Z, a project led by the Saudi-owned Qiddiya Investment Company. The development is expected to create approximately 2,000 jobs and will be built in stages over several years. The agreement follows discussions between French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding their shared interest in Japanese comics. The project is part of a broader effort by Saudi Arabia to diversify its economy away from oil revenues.
Why it matters
The project signals a significant deepening of cultural and economic ties between France and Saudi Arabia while providing a major new entertainment hub for the Paris region.
