The BJP appointed Manpreet Badal as a national vice-president months ahead of the upcoming Punjab assembly elections. Manpreet, a former Punjab finance minister and Congress leader, joined the BJP in January 2023 after losing the 2022 assembly election from Bathinda Urban and subsequently losing the 2024 Gidderbaha bypoll. His elevation forms part of the BJP's strategy to build an indigenous Jat Sikh leadership in Punjab, where the party has historically struggled to gain electoral traction. Meanwhile, the national leadership is addressing internal cadre resentment triggered by recent appointments in the Punjab unit. Senior figures such as Saudan Singh and Satish Poonia have also been assigned key organisational responsibilities for the state.
