Many IIMs Yet to Submit Reservation Rosters a Year After Ministry Directive
· India · Hindustan Times, Car and Driver
Nearly a year after the education ministry asked Indian Institutes of Management to prepare reservation rosters for faculty and non-teaching positions, several premier institutes are still completing the exercise. Official documents from a Right to Information application show that category-wise sanctioned-position details were awaited from eight IIMs, including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Ranchi, Rohtak, Udaipur, and Mumbai, by May 2026. Draft rosters were also pending from ten institutes, including Raipur, Nagpur, and Sambalpur. During coordination forum meetings, IIM officials cited inherent challenges in compliance, specifically the difficulty in finding suitable candidates with required PhD qualifications in relevant fields. Former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan previously urged directors and chairpersons to strengthen compliance with constitutional reservation provisions.
Why it matters
The delay by premier management institutes in implementing mandatory reservation rosters highlights persistent gaps in affirmative action compliance within elite higher education institutions in India.
