Martinez Slams Man Utd Board After Atletico Defeat
· Sports · BBC News, BBC Sport, CBS Sports
Lisandro Martinez launched a blistering attack on Manchester United's hierarchy, demanding more investment after the 2-0 Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid. The defeat marked United's fifth winless game, extending a season where they have managed only three victories in nine matches. Martinez specifically criticised the lack of defensive competition for Luke Shaw and striker support for Benjamin Sesko, areas neglected despite £155m spent on three midfielders. He warned that constant managerial changes without addressing squad depth only worsen the team's problems.
Why it matters
Martinez's public criticism puts pressure on United's new ownership group to address squad weaknesses before the January transfer window, with the team already winless in five games and struggling defensively.
