Massive landslide hits Sikkim's Mangan district

A massive landslide struck Sikkim's Mangan district in the early hours of Sunday, partially blocking the flow of the Teesta and Chyakoong rivers. A substantial portion of the hillside collapsed near the confluence of the rivers in the Chungthang subdivision following a new road cutting along the Naga-Tosa Road in the Naga Forest area. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far, and the extent of property damage is currently being assessed. Officials stated that river levels at the Sankalang and Phidang outposts remain normal, although the water continues to run muddy. The local administration has been directed to maintain continuous monitoring of water levels and immediately report any significant changes.
