Mayawati demands Ashok Siddharth quit politics for BSP role
· India · Times of India, The Hindu
BSP president Mayawati stated during a national meeting on Tuesday that Ashok Siddharth, her father-in-law, must quit politics completely to be considered for a major role. Siddharth, a former Rajya Sabha MP who was expelled in August for alleged anti-party activities, was permitted to work within the party as an ordinary worker. Mayawati clarified that she allows family members to assist the party but will not grant election tickets or positions until he demonstrates maturity. The meeting also saw the BSP decide to contest upcoming elections independently and bring expelled leader Randhir Singh Beniwal back into the fold.
Why it matters
This move signals internal disciplinary shifts within the BSP as it reorganizes itself ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
