Medical Interns Continue Strike in Kashmir Over Low Stipends

Medical interns across Kashmir continued their strike for a third consecutive day on Wednesday to demand an increase in their monthly stipends. Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti joined the protesting doctors at Government Medical College in Srinagar, calling their working conditions deeply painful. The interns are seeking a hike in their monthly stipend from approximately Rs 12,000 to Rs 30,000, pointing out that rates have remained unchanged for seven years. Mufti urged J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to meet with the students and resolve their grievances. The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee has also written to the Chief Minister in support of the striking medical personnel.
