· India · Times of India, Zee News
Ravita and her lover Amardeep were sentenced to death by Additional District and Sessions Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar for murdering Amit Kashyap in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on April 13, 2025. The couple strangled Amit and placed a live snake beside his body to mimic a snakebite death, which initially misled his family. A post-mortem examination revealed injury marks on his neck and nose, confirming strangulation as the cause of death. Both accused had been in jail for 17 months prior to the verdict and appeared via video conferencing. Government counsel Farzana Masood stated Ravita violated the ideals of Savitri through her actions. The court also ordered that Ravita’s children’s education and other needs be ensured with dignity.
Why it matters
The verdict delivers justice for Amit Kashyap’s family and sends a strong message against staged murders designed to evade accountability. It also highlights the court’s consideration for the welfare of the accused’s children amid a heinous crime.
