Meeting Notetaker Circleback Launches Free Tier Amid Rising Competition

· Technology · TechCrunch

Y Combinator-backed startup Circleback has introduced a free subscription tier to attract more users in the crowded meeting transcription market. The new plan allows users to record and transcribe an unlimited number of meetings, though access to historical transcripts is limited to 30 days. Users on the free plan also gain access to mobile and Apple Watch apps, AI-powered transcript queries, and integrations with Slack and Linear. The company previously required a paid subscription starting at $20.83 per month, but now offers a premium tier starting at $14 per month for full API access and unlimited history. Founder Ali Haghani stated the change is a marketing move to increase the product's reach following high user drop-off rates during limited trials.

Why it matters

The move intensifies the competitive landscape for AI meeting tools, forcing startups to lower entry barriers to capture market share against rivals like Granola, Read AI, and Fireflies.
