Meta to End OS Updates for Quest 2 and Quest Pro in March 2027
· Technology · Android Authority, Engadget
Meta announced that operating system support for the Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets will end after March 2027. Security updates for both devices will continue until the end of 2027, giving Quest 2 owners over seven years of security support since its 2020 launch. Despite the end of OS updates, Meta confirmed that compatible games, multiplayer cross-play, and PC VR through Meta Quest Link will continue to function. Developers may still release bug fixes and updates for existing titles, provided they give players six months' notice before ending support. The Quest Pro, released in October 2022, will receive just over five years of total support.
Why it matters
Millions of VR headset owners face the eventual phase-out of software updates, though their devices will remain operational for existing games and PC VR use.
