Meta has agreed to a settlement in a child safety lawsuit, resulting in new restrictions for users under 18 on Facebook and Instagram. The company will enforce a default two-hour daily time limit across both platforms, which can only be overridden by parents. Additionally, teen accounts will be blocked from accessing the apps between midnight and 6 a.m. and will have reaction counts hidden by default. Push notifications will also be silenced during school hours and late at night to reduce platform engagement. The settlement includes an $18 billion penalty to fund child online safety and mental health initiatives.
