Meta to Share Child Safety Data Directly with Indian Agencies

Meta Platforms announced it will share child sexual abuse material reports directly with Indian law enforcement agencies rather than routing them exclusively through the United States-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Previously, Indian authorities accessed these reports via a 2019 memorandum of understanding between the National Crime Records Bureau and NCMEC. Under the new arrangement, Meta will report child safety matters directly to the Cyber Crime portal managed by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre under the Union Home Ministry. The announcement follows intense scrutiny from the Union government and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights over CSAM appearing in paid advertisements on Instagram and Facebook. Meta stated that while third-party ads are screened, bad actors occasionally bypass filters to post prohibited content.
