MHA Warns of Malicious Android Apps Stealing Financial Data

The Union home ministry’s Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre has issued an advisory regarding malicious Android applications that steal money and hijack mobile devices. The apps, including names like “Night Play”, “Reloop”, and “Kyss”, are primarily distributed via social media advertisements that lead users to download APK files outside the Google Play Store. Once installed, these apps exploit Accessibility permissions to read screen data, intercept OTPs, and initiate unauthorized fund transfers. The advisory warns that some malware can even install secondary apps or VPNs to route traffic through attacker-controlled servers, making removal difficult for users.
