Michael Carrick Arrives at Carrington as Manchester United Consider Managerial Change
· Sports · BBC Sport, Sportstar
Michael Carrick arrived at Manchester United's Carrington training ground on Tuesday morning as uncertainty grows over his future as head coach. His position is under threat following a poor start to the season, though no official decision has been communicated ahead of Saturday's Premier League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. United's leadership is evaluating potential replacements, with former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and former Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann on their shortlist. Howe is open to taking the role, but United would owe Newcastle a multi-million-pound compensation fee under the terms of his July departure. If Carrick is dismissed, United will be searching for their eighth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Why it matters
A managerial change at Manchester United impacts the Premier League standings and alters the European football management market, with several high-profile coaches vying for one of football's biggest jobs.
