Michael Carrick Says Manchester United Squad Is United Despite Lisandro Martinez Fallout
· Sports · BBC Sport, Al Jazeera
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick insists the club has moved on from Lisandro Martinez's post-match comments following their 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid. Martinez criticized the club's hierarchy after the match, which drew condemnation from former players including Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane, and Gary Neville. Carrick stated that the squad is in a fantastic place and that external commentary does not reflect the reality within the training ground at Carrington. Martinez has apologized for the timing of his remarks directed at director of football Jason Wilcox rather than the substance of his words. Carrick confirmed that Martinez will be part of the squad for Sunday's Premier League match against Leeds United at Elland Road.
Why it matters
The fallout tests squad harmony and leadership stability at Manchester United as the team prepares for a crucial Premier League fixture under interim management.
