Misuse of AI is Top Reputational Threat for Brands, Survey Shows

Misusing artificial intelligence is perceived as the single greatest reputational risk to companies, surpassing concerns such as child safety and geopolitical conflicts. These findings come from the latest Reputation Risk Index released by the Global Risk Advisory Council, which surveyed more than 150 public affairs leaders across 20 countries. The Washington DC-based firm Global Situation Room, which creates the index, noted that while AI misuse has been a concern since April 2025, the council is now advising business leaders to take immediate preventive action. Respondents acknowledged AI's organizational efficiency while warning that the technology accelerates data breaches, fraud, privacy strains, and lawsuits. The advisory board emphasizes that unregulated AI use rapidly damages public trust and corporate standing with customers and investors.
