· India · The Hindu, Times of India, Hindustan Times
A mother and her son sustained serious injuries after a stockpile of locally made firecrackers exploded at their house in Kadamboor, Ambalappara, near Ottappalam in Palakkad. The early morning blast completely destroyed the residential building and damaged three neighbouring houses by shattering windowpanes and compromising a roof. The injured were identified as 70-year-old Janaki and her 35-year-old son Shajesh Kumar, both of whom were rushed to the Government Taluk Hospital in Ottappalam before Janaki was shifted to a private facility in Vaniyamkulam. Police suspect the firecrackers were manufactured without a licence and stored illegally, noting that a case was previously registered against the duo in 2024 for similar violations. A fresh case under the Explosives Act has been registered as forensic and bomb squads investigate the cause.
