Mourinho Calls Vinicius Ban Timing 'Shameless' After Champions League Clash
· Sports · Sportstar, BBC Sport
Jose Mourinho criticized the Spanish football authorities for announcing Vinicius Junior's four-match suspension just two hours before Real Madrid's Champions League clash with Roma in Rome. The Brazil international received the ban on Wednesday for pulling an opponent's hair during Saturday's 1-0 La Liga win over Villarreal. Mourinho argued the late announcement disrupted team preparations, calling it a 'lack of respect' for the competition. He also questioned why the decision could not have been made the following morning instead of during the match buildup.
Why it matters
Mourinho's complaint highlights how the timing of disciplinary actions can directly impact Champions League preparations and squad availability for crucial fixtures like the Roma match and upcoming La Liga games. The four-match ban also deprives Real Madrid of a key attacker during a critical phase of the La Liga season.
