Security was stepped up around the Shahi Masjid Complex after police used tear gas to disperse protesters near the site where a portion of the mosque was demolished. The demolition and road-widening project are part of infrastructure preparations for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2028 near the Mahakaleshwar temple.
